If you are looking to upgrade your hosting solution, you are already pretty familiar with the meaning and terminology related to hosting. We have all been there in the beginning, looking for good hosting for our website. The process of trying to figure out what would be the best hosting and at the same time not go over budget is probably quite known to you. If you have chosen a cheap shared hosting plan and you think you have outgrown it, you are facing the challenge of choosing a new plan yet again.

But first, let’s see if you actually need to upgrade your hosting.

How do you know when you are due for an upgrade?

There are many hosting options out there, and most of the time, beginners opt for the cheaper option, which is shared hosting. However, shared plans very fast become limited for new website users. If you are someone that is looking to engage with more visitors, shared plans won’t be the best choice in the long run.

Every website owner wants their website to grow and their traffic to increase over time, receiving more and more visitors every day. When this is the case, and your website does indeed start growing, you will need to upgrade your hosting and pay extra to be able to expand resources, such as drive space, bandwidth, speed, and others, to be able to accommodate more visitors.

Key reasons for upgrading your hosting

Here are some of the indicators when you need to start thinking about upgrading your hosting solution:

Slow Website – A slow-running website can lead to lost income and can even affect your online reputation. Users may get annoyed because of the loading speed, and your numbers might drop. Also, keep in mind that Google uses speed as part of its search mechanism. Meaning faster websites are given priority and higher ranking on Google searches.

Traffic – Website traffic is key to making money and growing your website but it is also intertwined with the website performance. The more visitors you get, whether it’s people reading your blog, downloading recipes, or buying products, the slower your website will perform if you don’t have the right amount of resources at your disposal.

Uptime – Another key factor is your website running time. Uptime reflects how long your website has been up and running. Downtime reflects how long your website has not been online. The lower the downtime, the better the outcome. If your host doesn’t provide reliable servers, your website will experience downtime. This will affect the trust in your website as well as your brand. Ask yourself, would you go back to a website if it’s constantly down when you try to open it?

Security –  If you were operating a website that was more informational, but now you want to turn it into an online shop, well, it is time to think about the importance of security. If you started off with shared hosting, you need to consider upgrading to make your website more secure since you will be getting sensitive data and information from your users.

Space – One of the most common problems website owners run into is the question of drive space. If you find yourself limited with storage, whether it’s files, images, videos, and other downloadable files, it is time to upgrade your hosting.

Add-ons – Sometimes paying for add-ons on your current hosting plan might get too expensive. The reason for this is when you are experiencing extra traffic, or you find yourself low on storage, or you simply need better speed, and loading time you might not think about the price and get add-ons right away. Over time these add-ons will become pile up, and you will end up paying a lot of extra fees. At the end of the day, if you did the math, it would be cheaper for you to upgrade your hosting rather than pay for them.

Last Words

We all want our websites to grow over time and it’s not uncommon for anyone to start off with a cheaper option. Just keep in mind all the key reasons for upgrading, and know that if you find yourself experiencing at least two, it is time to upgrade.
